I think everyone should check out this link and see the kind of violent, racist and anti-Islamic and rants people are making at Ace of Spades HQ regarding a Muslim UCLA student being tasered in the university library.
The opening segment looked pretty good. We'll see if they can provide continually captivating stuff.
However, I find it quite odd that they are choosing to serve as the dispossessed/human rights channel. It seems they are trying to be a dissenting channel.
It's an interesting niche to occupy, but does seem rather disingenuous. CNN, Fox News, Bloomberg, etc. are powerful media outlets, but they were created by Americans for Americans. They're not trying to influence the entire world.
Contrarily, al Jazeera English seems to be saying that it has something to say to an English speaking audience that the audience doesn't already know. If that's the case, then it seems rather patronizing.
Of course, the US gov't founded the lousy and patronizing al Hurra. Is that what al Jazeera English is "responding" to?
It just seems odd that the "human rights/ dispossessed" english language channel comes from a repressive dictatorship. That doesn't discredit the channel, but it makes one wonder about the motivation.
Regardless, I'm glad that this channel exists. It shows that globalization works both ways.
Give me a break.
Everybody wants to be a victim. Everyone wants to side with the oppressed. The "oppressed" are excused for every crazy thing they do.
Yell "victim" and the moral relativists forget their relativism.
Very few if any frigging "oppressed" mvmnts have resulted in anything good, but in more oppression.
The "oppressed" and "modern arab" view of the world is such a success, in terms of its results, that it needs to be more widely spread?
Al Jazeera exists in the world to oppose Saudi Arabia and anything related to Saudi Arabia, because the king of Qatar hates Saudi Arabia. So you see this channel always defending the terrorists, the Syrian regime and the Iranian regime. Nothing good comes out of it except poison.
