Israel attacks the UN...again.

An Israeli airstrike hit a United Nations post in southern Lebanon late Tuesday, killing at least two of the agency's observers, according to the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon
. Two other missing observers are feared buried in the rubble of the building.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he was "deeply distressed" by the "apparently deliberate" strike.

"This coordinated artillery and aerial attack on a long-established and clearly marked U.N. post at Khiyam occurred despite personal assurances given to me by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that U.N. positions would be spared Israeli fire," he said in a statement.

"Furthermore, General Alain Pelligrini, the U.N. force commander in south Lebanon, had been in repeated contact with Israeli officers throughout the day on Tuesday, stressing the need to protect that particular U.N. position from attack."

Did the international community got it at last? Did they understand the nature of this horrible agression?

Maybe civilian Lebanese blood was not loud enough...maybe UN blood is louder?

Now more than any other time, Israel is losing this war.

Why would Israel do this? To spit spitefully in the face of international protest and condemnation of their actions? It is a foolish action. It makes the IDF look as bloodthirsty as it really is. The facade of Israel's humanist democracy is rotting away, along with that of the United States since the Iraq invasion. The world can see our naked greed, ambition, and bloodlust now.

July 26, 2006. The day that maxwell's delusions and wishful thinking finally drove the last bit of common sense out of his skull. R.I.P.

Surely the neutral and impartial U.N. wouldn't put any of their personnel near Hizballah, who launched war against Israel and are now on the receiving end of a deserved response?

An Israeli commander at the Lebanese border recalls peering through binoculars one afternoon to see U.N. peacekeepers sipping tea with Hizbollah guerrillas. And recently, the UN was busy repairing damaged roads in Hizballah-controlled areas.

A casual observer with a brain ("Ivy league dropouts" need not apply) might start to wonder how "neutral" the U.N. really is, eh?

beefstu-is this the new Israeli policy? attacking the UN and declaring it a non-neutral side?
this is interesting to admit.
This is how all criminal countries fell before....
As I said, you're losing the war....just look how you all lost your mind...

the IDF isn't losing. HA isn't losing. the real losers are civilans of both sides.

let's face it - it's not like HA can destroy the IDF or even seriously damage it. it can only try to achieve the lebanese targets by small-scale operations.

and let's face it - it's not like the IDF can destroy HA. the only documented cases of destroying militias with wide public support is by serious massacres, like al-hama. i hope we won't see israel doing that - i believe it won't.

a military win or a loss is defined by how you call it. who won the 1973 war? both sides claim they did.
a civilian loss is measurable and definite. bridges and homes can be rebuilt. people can't. nothing will bring back the dead.

a civilian win? making a viable, long-lasting peace. now where's the brave leader that can orchestrate that?
