IF YOU HAVE A BLOG or a WEBSITE, PLEASE POST THIS!

OK, here is the plan. I can't stand here, watching doing nothing. The truth is that we are at the mercy of world leaders. However, I think they should know how we feel. Maya, our fellow blogger from About Lebanon, has drafted a short letter to be sent to all the world leaders that you can think of. She has provided some email addresses. Please feel free to add more emails to your list of leaders. Please forward this email to all your friends, and urge them to send this email to world leaders. The idea is to flood world leader's emails with our plea. They must receive thousands of emails from people all over the world. Please circulate this as much as you can. I will transfer it to all my fellow bloggers and email it to all my family and friends. Please do the same! We must do something.

Dear World Leaders,

This letter is a plea from the Lebanese people, and friends of Lebanon . We urge you to exercise any political influence you may have to guide a cease fire between Israel and Hezbollah. Negotiations must take place. The violence that has escalated in Lebanon has gotten out of control, it is insanity! The people of Lebanon are suffering; the Lebanese economy will suffer deeply for years to come. As I am sure you know anger, resentment, and poverty can only lead to further extremism. For the welfare of Lebanese citizens, Israeli citizens, the stability of the Middle East , and indeed the world, we implore you to take action as soon as possible to prevent further violence, destruction, and casualties.

Sincerely,

Friends and Citizens of Lebanon

Cordialement,

Le peuple du Liban et ses amis

Its your choice, you can send this email to the one, more than one, or all of the following below. Also, please feel free to send this to anyone you deem appropriate and to add your personal touch to the letter. But always try to keep it polite and civilized. Thank you.

Ask your friend Hezbollah to surrender their weapons (to the Libanese Army?), disband their militias and release the kidnapped soldiers.

This could end now or when the last Hezbollah is dead or out of the Lebanon.

Libanese people is better to choose side and choose wisely. The middle of the battlefield is never a good position.

As a Lebanese citizen I am not pleased in the least to look impotent and to have Israel attempt to do, probably unsuccessfully, what my governemt should have done a long time ago. The truth be told though, Micro, has it right. There is an easy solution to this crisis, disarm HA and ask them to leave the Cabinet because they cannot play a role in constructing that which they do not believe in. I find the Israeli actions very cruel and painful but I find the HA policies at least just as cruel if not even more so. Israel will retreat to its side of the border once I am able to act responsibly on my side of the border but HA insists that it is either their way or no way at all. They have acted as hooligans who have no respect for others. They are a "resistance" in search of something to resist and thus will always resort to such actions that will inflame a situation in order to justify their existence at the expense of the rights, ideas and prosperity of others.

It is my considered opinion that no responsible world leader will take any action that will only stop the Israeli invasion , as brutal as it might be,if it does not address the question of cndeming in no uncertain words the acts of provocation by HA.

mirco:
Israel can never be trusted....power can only be dealt with power.... Hizbulla is the only group that has and can preserve Lebanese dignity...

Israelis occupied lebanon for 20 years and it was only through the increase in israeli soldiers body count that they left Lebanon; and not the UN resolution that stood as a paper for 20 years.

Who gaurantees that israel will not attack and keep violating our country land, sea and airspace if Hizbullah was no more?

What is happening now is further than the issue of 2 soldiers. It is part of the plot to break Iran, syria and hizbulllah for good. Even if the 2 soldiers weren't kidnapped this was going to happen sooner or later.

Yes, we love our country, yes we want peace...but dignified peace and not surrender. Israel can bring the whole country down...kill thousands...but this will only create more and more resistance...Isn't that the way Hizbullah was created in 1982?!!

The problem with Israel is that they never learn...this vicious cycle of violence has gained Israel nothing since 1982....nothing in Gaza too...

Only When Israelis learn to treat lebanese and palestinians as equals...then there will be peace.

Israelis will retreat cause we Lebanese have the stronger WILL...and we are able to take more punches....it will be painful to us...but so for Israel.

The more ISrael attacks...the weaker the Lebanese government grows...the more the chaos...the stronger Hizbulla and other factions will become in Lebanon. And once there's no more infrastructure to lose...it will be daily hunting season across the Israeli border.....The tension will reach a critical mass that will lead to another Iraq on the israeli border? and will spread to egypt and jordan (whose leaders are trembling of this senario).

So which side am I, mirco?

Sleep tight tonight mirco...cause you may never again.

Xylocaine: Let me remind you that the 1982 invasion of Lebanon was in retaliation to palestinian terroism from Lebanon (including rocket attack on Israeli cities). There were no settelments in Lebanon, only a security zone. Israel has no territorial or other designs upon Lebanon, but we can not tolerate any attacks from there. Remove Hezbollah and live in peace or hide behind the Hizballah and pay the price.

Achraf, nice effort. But do you think it will make a difference? The international authorities have already chosen to support Israel; What a shame! Kofi Anan goes on TV and days that he denounce the Hizbollah kidnapping of the israely soldiers. They do not consider us to be humans. We are a shit for them. I'm sad, very sad, anxious and extremely worried about the future of Lebanon. IF there is anything guys that we can do, pls advice.Goodnight fellows... :(

I cannot not send this to any government. The rest of the world is tired of "negotiating" with terrorists like Hezbollah and Hamas. It garners nothing but time for such terrorist organizations to rebuild, refinance, regroup and attack again. If we have learned anything, this is it. Hezbollah is not a government nor do they represent any country; they cannot be trusted to honor any "agreement" made.

I will, however, contact my government and ask that they urge Israel to safeguard as much as possible non-combatants and the people of Lebanon until Hezbollah has been wiped out.

Now I ask that the Lebanese insist (or at least urge) the disarmament of Hezbollah and the return of the soldiers. THAT is what will guarantee an end to the shooting.

Cathy, thanks very much!
CML, thanks for contacting your government; safegaurding civilians is better than none.
ElGrande, I totally agree!
Linalone, I'm skeptical, too, but have reached a level of desperation that I'm willing to try anything to stop the madness. Besides, what's the harm? At worst, it'll be ignored; I can live with that. At best, someone else would that wouldn't have otherwise...

Thank you so much for this post, added it to my blog and e-mailed every single representative of my state. It would be nice if there was a Russian and Chinese version to send to representatives of the Russian and Chinese govt thereby contacting every permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Here is a e-mail list for the European Union in case you are interested

I think a lot of responders here are missing Israel's objective. Israel doesn't want land. What would they do with it? Israel doesn't want the destruction of Arab nations -- they could care less if Arab nations exist, as long as they don't fund the destruction of Israel.

Israel just wants to be left alone. It is true, they respond brutally at the smallest provocation. And they are wrong to do so. But the easiest way to avoid being attacked by a lioness is to not kidnap its children.

The way out of the mess -- and I daresay the only way out of this mess -- is for the Lebanese Army to join Israel in attacking Hizbullah targets in exchange for 1) money to recontruct and re-build 2) settling border disputes in a manner favorable to Lebanon 3) strong promises of peace and disengagement backed by US resolutions that would cause Israel to be punished if violated.

Israel would gladly help to rebuild Lebanon and pay any sort of war reparations if in exchange they got border security, and could be free from Iranian and Syrian -funded attacks.
