What I've been hearing...

I just posted a similar version of this as a comment on the Lebanese Bloggers (which, btw, is IMO the very best source for breaking news right now). Since it's buried under nearly 70 others-- and somewhat long for a comment-- i thought i'd repost it here.

Much of the information i'm passing along is speculation, but it is coming from very credible sources.

-- My boss (who is very well connected) tells me that further strikes in Bey will probably be limited to the southern suburbs. If Hezbollah retaliates harshly, the most likely central Beirut target is BIEL.

--the Turkish ambassador to Lebanon told a friend of mine that the road to the Syrian border in the North will be targeted (and cut off) soon, probably within the next 24 hours. If you want to get out without being evacuated, go NOW.

Apparently, he feels its possible that the whole country will end up sealed for a few months. As someone who'd rather be stuck in Lebanon than stuck outside of it, this strengthens my resolve to stay, but you guys should take this into consideration.

--a Mustaqbal source informs me that they are hoping to somehow convince Hezbollah to turn the soldiers over to the government. Seems unlikely, but just fyi.

That's it for now. Be safe, everyone!!

Once again the arab/muslim tendency to blame others for their stupidity surfaces. What the hell do you people think was/is going to happen after so many damn attacks on civilians, so many damn atrocities committed simply because you are so bigoted/racist you can’t live next to JOOOOOS? Do you think the rest of the world has infinite patience to wait until you people to come out of the 7th century and deal, like rational human beings, with the rest of us? Lebanon’s people have turned a blind eye to the atrocities committed by hezbollah for years. You are complicit in their crimes. The rest of this planet wants to live in peace and prosperity, but muslim/islamic assholes want to destroy everything we work for using the palestinian "cause" as a bloody excuse. The sympathy of the West is dwindling rapidly. Of course you still have your allies in France, Russia and China. But don't count on them to heavily as they'll turn on you when the going gets really tough and they can't profit from it. You call America imperialistic. BS. If we were, we wouldn't be having this tired old argument AGAIN and AGAIN. As far as this American is concerned you people have gotten what you deserve. Here's hoping Iran does provoke Israel to really take the gloves off. Cause then it’s on. You (collective all the middle east) have been asking for all out war with the rest of the non—muslim world for my entire life time. Well, it looks like you finally got what you wanted. Be sure and send my thanks to hezbollah, those brave, righteous defenders of the islam. (SARCASM).

it is time for your country to take brave step and control Hezbollah from attacking with no reason, we redraw from Lebanon as you wanted, don't blame us for nassrala that don't really care if Lebanon "her" paying the price of his ego, our "warplane" are not aiming to "her" it is Hezbollah that use "her" to protect him self, as far as I know it's the Hezbollah that shot direct in to our city's, we also have "her" that don't sleep at nights.
if your government will take the right step like she did or should I say you the people of lebanon if you force Hezbollah to move from the boarder non of this would have happen.
Israel is only try to force Lebanon to take a brave step that should have been taking a long time ago 6 years to be more prissily.

To Imad: the Lebanese prisoners in Israel are terroists who should remain in jail. kuntar has bashed the head of a little girl with a stone, do you want this man loose? why?? Is such a man really worth the pain and bloodshed that the Hizbollah is putting you and us through? you know very well that the Hizbollah has vowed many times to hurt and destroy Israel, the prisoners are just a flimsy excuse.

This American considers you to be an abomination of the principles our country was founded on. I suppose you think the war in Iraq was a good thing too. It's easy for Americans to have an opinion of what the civilians in countries manipulated by their neighbors, and the western governments, should do. Americans have never had to watch their homeland destroyed , or live without basic services such as water and electricity, or live in fear that at any moment rockets could tear their neighborhood apart and brutally kll everyone in them.

Most Americans today will point to 9/11 and say yes we have. No, we haven't - multiply that 100 fold, have it continue day in and day out without respite, then tell me the civilians deserve this from anyone.

NO country should be able to target a civilian population for the acts of misguided and hate filled militia groups. The Lebanese people didn't urge Hezbollah on, the Lebanese government probably didn't even know it what they were doing, yet the civilians are paying the price. They did nothing.

Most people in this country don't agree with our government on many things, yet we are powerless to stop them. Why do you think middle eastern civilians are any different? What makes you think they have this incredible power over their government and these side groups? We couldn't stop Tim McVeigh, we can't stop the gang violence. How can they stop a group armed with military grade weapons, we can't stop people aremed with handguns.

Join the real world. I am just grateful that you didn't act as though you were representing ALL Amerricans, because you aren't.

oh where are my manners! I forgot to thank you! you surely have the best interest of lebanon in your thoughts ! listen pals, stop killing civilians, stop thinking you're something that you're not, start treating others as your equals, as owners of land that you have stolen, THEN, MAYBE, i can think of reading what chitchat is going on around here. otherwise, don't bother me with replys. especially long useless ones.

I speak for ME. Who do you think the "terrorist" are? They are the population. Mothers happily send their sons off to be suicide bombers to kill innocents. They get paid to sacrifice themselves. It’s an honorable profession. Killing JOOOS and infidels is so cool. The excuses you make for the "arabs" are no different than the excuses they make for themselves. The violence/hatred/bigotry perpetuated by their belief system is the core problem to their misery. They are intolerant and unable or unwilling to live peacefully with their neighbors. The amount of wealth they sit on collectively should ensure no hunger/poverty, but it doesn't. Why? Why is a region sitting on so much natural wealth unable to pull its collective head out of its ass and join the rest of this planet? If this situation escalates, we might just find out just how resilient Americans truly are. Remember, some of us are the children of those who suffered under the Nazis. Take your own advice princess, take off the blinders and see the threat we all face because of these idiots. You’re probably the type who won’t believe its truly happening until your children are lying dead at your feet. I refuse to see my children dead or subjugated by these animals. I rather die on my feet than on my knees. I imagine the Israeli’s feel the same damn way.

Yeah, what about your prisoners in Syrian jails, whom I can assure you do not have it as good as those in Israeli jails. I urge the lebanese not to allow Hizbollah to dictate their agenda.

there are hundreds of women and children in israeli jails...are the children criminals...i bet you are creating what you seek to destroy...the prisoners of war should be sent to the UN FOR A FAIR TRIAL WITHIN 60 DAYS...even i know that there are children in jail, and i live half way around the world...people are watching their families die, and it is just creating a cycle of violence...stop the violence, and spend your 3 billion a year on feeding and educating the young, and try to help them to understand the sickness and absurdity of it all...email the UN be nice, maybe it will help
