A 15,000,000,000 $ Donation

ok, i'm sure that got your attention.

that is, at least long enough for everyone to forget (momentarily i'm sure) the ongoing feud between east-coast based bloggers and those in lebanon.

but seriously, l'orient le jour and dailystar both report on a lebanese called elie youssef najem (or as he likes to call himself, lord elie youssef najem - please do check out the link ...) who has pledged to invest $15 billion in lebanon - including 16 fighter jets for the lebanese army. for example, this "good soul" will do the following:
Il offre également à des ONG et des associations caritatives les sommes suivantes : dix millions de dollars à la Croix-Rouge ; deux millions de dollars à la branche de Batroun de la Croix-Rouge ; dix millions de dollars à l’association Auxilia attaché de conditions relatives à l’allocation de ce don ; dix millions de dollars pour la création d’un orphelinat à Batroun avec une capacité d’accueil de 200 enfants ; dix millions de dollars pour la création d’une maison de retraités. (l'orient le jour)

now, the dailystar does note that he is a criminal of sorts, who has been accused of fraud and sexual harrasment (something that was not mentioned by l'orient le jour) - i.e. his claim is false. even though that in itself can be used on his resume when running for parliament, his true patriotism shines when he claims that he won't donate directly to the government since "twice before when I came to Lebanon [the government] embezzled $850 million from me".

-----

ok, that's all. the short breaking news segment is over. get back to the feud.

I missed the feud. I don't really want to look it up - I saw that there was a dinner in NY, which looked nice. Following a feud thread is not my idea of a good time.

Can you summarize the feud in one sentence?

And can we all just try to get along?

I am the only West Coast (USA) Lebanese blogger I know of but I am sure there must be more. Folks?

lol what feud? I missed it too

This is interesting news though...
I hear there is a man in Kuwait who donates $100 000 every month to Aoun

This same man booked an entire plane to fly voters to Lebanon last year to vote for Aoun.

Rumors in the grapevine say Aoun promised him a parliamentary seat.

Rumors in the grapevine also say that this man will fly Aoun to Kuwait soon... not sure what for yet though.

So I guess the way to get your parliamentary seat is to buy it... urgh I can't afford it ;)

This guy looks like a scam. His website is hilarious. Some passages of his biography:

He lost a brother at the age of 19. Rodrique Najem was murdered by Robert Atkinson, a boy who was stealing Rodrique’s apartment at night. He shot him after counting 1, 2, 3 and then pulling the trigger. Even there was evidence to convict the murderer for a life sentence but the judge was a female so she got him free.

And then Dr. Najem began the fight against real justice in this world. He left Canada and never went back just for him to stay safe and sound as for the Atkinson family tried to assassinate him few times.

Dr. Elie Youssef Najem has not seen his brother and his kids since he left Canada as the Atkinson Family are trying to kill him for fighting for his believes and justice.

Dr. Najem sees his brother’s goal, so achieved in life. He is an actor. Dr. Elie Najem says he has acted in 14 different movies and now he just finished acting in last movie, Hard Rock.

and it goes on.. does that look like a guy with 15 billions to spare? come on..
