UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize 2006 awarded to Lebanese journalist May Chidiac

On the recommendation of an international jury of media professionals, UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura designated Lebanese journalist May Chidiac, winner of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2006. Full story here

I wonder why they didn't designate her a winner last year; does a person has to lose an arm and a leg before they acknolwedge his/her efforts?!

Yes, one obviously does. But I'm not sure about your comment; it strikes me as very inappropriately misplaced. Is this bitterness and cynicism really necessary? Towards the side that's recognizing her loss? I don't feel that this particular post is the proper forum for it.
